Description

A set of four rare miniature Blue and Whilte Willow Pattern plates. English, circa 1827 to 1855.
Two in excellent condtion, two with damage. One of the damaged plates has an old repair with staples, which is nice to see as it shows how rare these little plates were and how much they were valued by their owner at the time.
Also photographed with a Willow Pattern dinner plate, side plate and saucer to give a perspective of the size.
Impressed name "HACKWOOD" to base of all four. Several potters of this name were working in the Stoke-on-Trent area in the early 19th Century.
The Willow Pattern originally derived from a Chinese design. The first English pieces based on a willow pattern were made in the late 18th Century. By the first decade of the 19th Century a standard design had emerged. This pattern was used by many different makers, and proved extremely popular in Victorian times.
0.25 inches high (0.6 cm high), 3.33 inches diameter (8.5 cm diameter)
